Of Fish-traps and Abalone Farms

It’s not often we work on weekends or public holidays, but for good clients, we make exceptions :-). Such was the case over the Easter weekend when we flew a beach usage survey along the Cape South Coast. The weather was perfect for a day at the beach, or a flight along the coast, for that matter, and once again we realised how priviliged we are to be able to do this for a living!

Along the way we captured these interesting images of aquaculture both ancient and modern: On the left are the prehistoric fish-traps near Cape Agulhas, visible as lines of stones linking the three “toes” extending out into the sea from the “foot of Africa”. The other three images are of modern Abalone (perlemoen) farms at Hermanus and Danger Point.
